Every time the GUI version finishes a little "work unit" it exits the program.
Every time I run the background mode it dies with a windows error (win XP).

Did I break it?  Wink

Really, what's going on?

(In background mode it exits after a few minutes.)

Which version of the Muon client are you using?
Error messages?

I have the newest version,

the error message is an error report thingy

"Muon1.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.  we are sorry for the inconvenience."

the version I downloaded was in the zip file "v432e.zip"

Latest version (v432f.zip download file) crashed in less than 4 hours running as cmdline on W2KPro and AMD XP2600+ . Crash time roughly coincided with the time stamp on the results file.

Hmm... There _is_ a v432f_debug_version.exe that I'm using at work, but at the moment its output doesn't seem to be very clear on what's causing the crash, which happens to me sometimes too (though less often when I only use one thread).  I can e-mail you the debugging version anyway to see if your error is somehow different.

I've been running v4.32f for a couple of days, but it crashes out about every four or five completions, immediately after saving the result (fortunately)

I get the "Muon1.exe has encountered a problem and will exit.  An error log is being created.  Please restart the program"

This is on the following rig:

XP3200, Epox 8RDA, 512 Mb DDR3200 Corsair XMS (dual channel), W2000Pro SP4

Any tips would be appreciated, as I can't babysit it continuously.

TIA.

It seems that I just got a bad download/extraction.

On a whim, I downloaded a fresh client, extracted it into another empty directory, and just copied my "user" file across.

It has now been running happily for 20 runs, and shows no sign of stopping.  Big Grin

For ages I was getting crashes with 4.32f running here and couldn't get the debug output to tell me where they were coming from.  Now I've pinned down a couple of errors (though one of those I think was introduced after I released 4.32f so you won't see any difference).  Sometimes when a send operation goes wrong, a file test_somethingorother.txt appears in the lattices directory.  You should delete it whenever it appears, as it can make muon produce rubbish in its results file.  Fortunately I think the stats counter is successfully filtering out that rubbish at this end!

I'm testing what may become 4.32g here at the moment.  By tomorrow I'll know if it's pretty good or whether I need to fix something else...
