that passage just says that a distributed computing project simulating the CERN- particle accelerator is considering becoming part of the BOINC-network.
any comments stephen?

Well, no, apart from that (to avoid any confusion) that is a different distributed computing project to Muon1. I haven't seen it 'advertised' on the web much so maybe it's not a public-participation one?

It doesn't make any sense: that's why they call it "virtual"

Is this different to "The Grid", which is supposed to be handling LHC data when it finally arrives?

BBC news website has an article on this today.
