stats are run by Stephen whenever he can/wants.  Usually it is couple times per day time and couple times in the evening (England time?) with evening updates more frequent.

The stats are done once per hour whenever my computer is online.  However for 31 hours recently my ISP took my connection down (no idea why), but the stats are back up again now.

I did not realised that the stats are done this often, I remember reading it was couple times per day and more often in the evening.  or something along these lines...

At one stage it was.  I didn't want people to _expect_ hourly updates because sometimes I don't keep my computer on 24/7 (e.g. in the episode with the thunderstorms a few weeks back).  However it seems happy running continuously for now, although I'm going to have to rethink the stats-counter because recounting the ENTIRE database (of increasing size) is taking 5-6 minutes now.  If I have 10x more results it'll be impossible to still do hourly stats on this 400MHz PC, but actually recounting ALL the stats is a dumb way of doing it and at some stage I'll just count the new additions.

Uptime counter reports...

...not bad for Win98SE running a fair bit of stuff!

Unfortunately
  • my router
  • my cable provider
  • my web-host
all seem to be offline for about 5-10% of the time, so it's a wonder the stats get refreshed as often as they do.  Occasionally I'll turn off the stats one hour if I'm testing some other program here because it really slows down the computer when it has to re-count 300MB of files.  I'm working on a way to speed that up now.
