I read that piece last night, and sent Mr Timmins an email about Muon1... From what I see, Fermilab are now potentially at the point that the RAL was 10 years ago

Project X's parameters were a bit weird for driving the neutrino factory last time I saw them.  I mean, they could do it, but they had to put 1 or 2 extra rings on the end of their proton accelerator to form short bunches (which you'd have anyway from a synchrotron like in the RAL option).
