I've found a way around the bug in Muon v4.0x that made all the results corrupted.  The new version should work properly (and it still has FTP access etc.).

are you sure?  Sorry for that question, but I wanna know...

I checked the simulation and all the magnets are in line at least.  It's certainly less wrong than the previous version (i.e. if there's something wrong with it it's difficult to see).

But what's up with the top results that we can download.  Are they without any mistake?

Oh those.  No they're completely wrong, but it doesn't really matter if you've used them anyway, as the simulation will be valid regardless.  I've taken them down from the site now.

Should I delete my result files "result.dat and result.txt" before running 4.1?

yes

One disadvantage with the way the automatic system works at the moment is that if people decide to transfer their results.txt over to the new version, I'll get sent older results into the new version's directory.  But fortunately I have a results checker here so I can quickly see when this has happened.

Basically people shouldn't copy results.txt over to the new version as there is no need - just manually send the last results from the old version, and if you want, copy results.dat over (which is harmless and won't mean I get sent obsolete results, even if there are some older results in the DAT file).

I was only asking about those two files because I didn't want it to somehow spin out more incorrect work.

As a rule, a valid version will always produce valid results.  However it's better if you do not send me "mixed" results files with some valid and some old results because I'll have to separate them out by hand.

With a manual update, the work is added as version 4.05. or are you only adding stats for version 4.05 and not 4.1. i added 10K of 4.1 manually, but it is not in the stats.  so what is happening to returns for version 4.1??????  mad
and YES i am using version 4.1!

I also just spotted that bug at this end.  All that happened was that I did not recompile "manualsend.exe" with the new version number, so manualsend.exe _thinks_ it's still version 4.05 and will hence upload to the wrong folder.

Fortunately I can detect corrent v4.1 data from their checksums and get it back, but please download version v4.11 which will do everything properly.  If you let version 4.1 send AUTOMATICALLY, it will upload to the correct folder.

thanks for the quick fix.  i like to try all ways to up load so i noticed it.  the switch to turn off the autoupdate is great.  cheers.  best get moving back up the stats!!  big grin

When will there be the next update of the stats?  I've send some results already

Hi Pascal, looks like the stats are updated every hour, but i have found it takes 2 hours for some of them to appear.  Stephen may be double checking after the change between 4.1 and 4.11.

The ones that took 2 hours to appear were probably submitted manually from version 4.1 so I had to cut and paste them around myself.  All the v4.11 results ought to appear within the hour.

nice things, that are being developed.  Is there also any idea to have some top results automatically generated and prepared for download?  Perhaps that could make everything faster..

Figuring out when to make the best100 is a bit of a black art.
If I made the best100 too often, the optimisation would lose diversity, but if I don't make it often enough, the optimisation goes no faster than the "luckiest" user.  So I tend to upload the best100 at longer intervals.

Hi Stephen,
what about to offer a random_couple_of_very_good_results to download ?
I trust you find a simple program to extract some 50 or 100 results out of all accumulated in your "database" . This could be done every 2 or 3 days, and we wouldn´t loose diversity.  smile

OOOps,
I didn´t see this hint.
Unfortunately I "manualsent" some 412 results from version 4.03 some minutes ago.  They got registered as v411 results.  Please shift them to v403.
Sorry to make you extra work...

Today I've seen an old bug.  two lines in results.txt and results.dat (two of that with the muon parameter set) were missing.  I stopped the client and deleted them.  The percentage was in both cases about 0.3xx %.
