I wonder if anyone else has been getting the problem in the last few days that an inordinate number of servers seem to be either unresponsive or offline?  Hotmail has been particularly bad, but there are have been a lot of other occasions when my browser would either time upwards of 30 seconds or not connect to a website at all.  In fact earlier today Opera 7 swore blind that the website did not exist!

Maybe it's my ISP, but I do wonder if the current spate of worms hasn't crippled Hotmail.

It doesn't make any sense: that's why they call it "virtual"

Right now everything is in the yellow and even the USA coverage score is 79. I've seen that up at 92 sometimes, and it's usually around 88.

The power-cut a few days ago might (speculative) have screwed things up somewhat on the US side of the transatlantic links, and I've heard that NTL have had a few problems in that area recently...
