Let's try this again: v4.32f RAR file, ZIP file.

Corrections made are as follows:
  • Solved a potential memory problem with multiple threads
  • It loads the autosave files again (v4.32e final didn't).
  • Someone had a problem with DirectX and I added a workaround for graphics cards that don't like this particular thing
  • Last but not least, this beta is labelled as such.

Barring any corrections, I'll make this "gold" on Friday, at which time I'll try to merge any already-sent "beta" results with the real version.

still doesn't work on the k6, but running fine on my other machine here.  save works again.

edit: looks like I jumped in too fast.  I tried a save file from v432e. It claimed it didn't exist and then deleted it!  I assume that this is on purpose?  e and f save files not compatible?
seems to pick up the f save files though...

Good point... I'd forgotten myself, but then I found this line:
if (strcmpi(str,VERSTRING)) {fclose(in); DeleteFile(AUTOSAVE); return 0;}
...which does exactly this.  I reckon it's necessary in case I change the format of the autosave files - carrying over old files would result in the newer version loading trash.

Viewresults dies with no error message when I attempt to press A or F from the main histogram screen, otherwise, seems to work fine.

Just returned the first 36 'f beta' results:
20031030-192737 36 results sent to stephenbrooks.org

I hope they are usable.
No problems encountered so far.  No queue was created either (yet?)... perhaps just coincidence ?

I'll look into this on Monday.  I'm not releasing this as 'gold' on Friday (today) because it would be rash to do so without at least checking the sent results and maybe that viewresults thing.

David,. Did you add the 100/500 sample file to your Results.dat, if so check to see you do not have a space

Spot on, Boots - looks like the "sample100.txt" file I had has a terminating CR/LF or suchlike that isn't taken into account when the next new result is added.

Simple to fix, anyway, thanks.

Or rather, you've got to retain the CRLF after the end of the last line in sample100.txt even when you add it onto the end of your file.  Muon will write "RESULT,CRLF", so assumes if there are any previous lines in the file they all have a terminating CRLF, though in a text editor this is sometimes hard to spot.
Maybe I could devise some special way of writing to the file that adds the final CRLF though...

Umm,

I merely renamed the sample100.txt to results.dat.  I didn't edit it in any way.

The first two results that were created were appended to the .dat file, on the line following the terminating CR/LF, so something weird happened.

The 'f' version is working perfectly here.
It will run a queue.txt that was started on another version with no problem.
I tried some old junk queues from the 'b' version and it finished it without a complaint.
It will not end a queue after one run if it is a loser, though.  That would be a major improvement in the future if it could be done.

This version still won't run on the two Windows 98 Intel/AMD systems I posted about before.  Stephen, have you already looked into this, or is it still on the TO-DO list (since I don't seem to be the only one with this problem)?

It won't _start_ a queue unless the result is pretty high (i.e. higher than your .dat file's rechecked results) already.  And I don't see how you can figure out if a result is a "loser" after one run, since if I only ran results for one run there'd be no point in having a queue Confused

[DPC]Stephan202's error is probably related to [OCAU]Badger's error, which I tried for ages to fix with no results.  Better to run find-a-drug or something on the systems that don't like Muon for now.

Right, well the version that's uploaded at the moment identifies itself just as "v4.32f". It seems to be pretty good (in the interim I fixed a bug that was causing an intermittent crash here).  If there prove to be more problems I'll go onto version 802.11g 4.32g.

is there a difference between f beta and f, ie should I bother to change to f form f beta?

One thing I've noticed with this version is that when I run the background mode I do not get multiple thread ability.  My Dual Xeon is only using one processor.  Not a big deal as I just used Firedaemon to run the console version as a system service and it hides the command line window and uses both of my threads listed in the config.txt so it's basically just like using the background client in the end.  Just figured you'd like to know the issue just in case others havn't caught it and are thinking they are getting full use out of it on multi-processor systems.  Although it could just be a localized problem with my system, but I doubt it Razz. Good luck =)

I run with 4 threads here and it's actually unstable (over periods of 24 hours or so).  I'm going to have a look into this.  One thing to bear in mind is that sometimes (when there are very few particles, or the program is doing initialisation) multithreading won't be being used, so here I get 25% usage for periods when it is starting up a unit.  Strange you should only find this with the background client though.

Badger: you bothered posting here, which is probably more work than downloading the new client Razz If anything's changed it'll just be the 2 EXEs, so you could stop muon and overwrite them, then restart.

Okay, here's an update of my above findings.  When I posted the previous about the background client using only one of my 2 threads, I have found that when using the FireDaemon client and setting the background version as a service it only uses 1 thread.  When I launch the background client normally it does use the right amount of threads.  Not sure why FireDaemon blocks a thread from being used on the background version but it did on my system, but only for the background.  The cmdline version ran great as a service utilizing both threads.  Food for thought Smile
