I decided to go into Linux on my work machine this afternoon to see if I could port Muon1 to compile on gcc.  I started the "Linux" partition and it turned out all I had installed was a very basic commandline interface - it had vi and gcc, but I felt something was missing.  It turned out I hadn't installed the RedHat CDs that had come with the computer.  So I did that, and it overwrote my boot.grub file, which used to have one Windows2K and one Linux option, by one with two Linux options (one SMP, one not).  This is a real pain.  I hope I manage to fix it tomorrow.  If not I guess have no option but to port Muon1 to Linux... big grin

PS: anyone know of a Linux programming editor that doesn't completely suck?  My Windows editor looks like http://stephenbrooks.org/ral?muon1/muon1.c - any free-downloadable Linux program that could make it look that good would be welcomed.

Hmm.

I did something like that with SUSE Linux.
But it was no Problem to configure LILO
under the GUI...at least after i found my Windows
partition.
I'm sure you will figure it out wink

You may try anjuta ( http://anjuta.sourceforge.net/ ).  You need GNOME or at least GTK to use it.  If you have only text mode machine, you can use midnight commander bulit in text editor (mcedit).

I've started in KDE this time, and it's much better than the Gnome user interface.  It also comes with a workable editor called "Kate". At least this one has legible fonts.

ERr also Linux renders font point-sizes completely differently (i.e. about 35% smaller) than Windows so I think I'm going to have to change my site's CSS formatting to use pixels instead of points for the font sizes.  Heh Konqueror highlights two hyperlinks at once if you get your mouse right between them sometimes, but if you click it only loads one...

Oh great.  Well I got my Windows partition back by typing

rootnoverify (hd0,0)
chainloader +1
b

...into the boot loader screen.  I mean it's intuitively obvious, right?  [extreme sarcasm]

LOL.  I want to get rid of the Linux bootloader on my computer, but to do that I need to create a bootable floppy disk so I can do fdsisk mbr (or something like that).  The utility to create such a disk in Win2k requires the disk to be in the A: drive.  Microsoft seem to have overlooked the fact that my floppy drive shows up in B:

If you still have Linux, you may run lilo witht -u parametr (I'm not sure that "-u", so better check it in man pages).  It restore that MBR witch was before latest lilo instalation.

Thanks, but for some reason it's GRUB, not LILO.
